BPA Represents Belize at IMO Maritime Safety Committee 111

The Belize Port Authority is proud to participate in the 111th Session of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 111), being held at IMO Headquarters in London from 13–22 May 2026.
Representing Belize at this important session are Mr. Thadrian Williams- Technical Manager at BPA; Mr. Shawn Gordon; Mr. Anique Sabal – Acting Technical and Seafarer Director; and Mr. Elias Gonzalez of the International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (IMMARBE).
MSC 111 brings together IMO Member States to address critical issues shaping the future of international shipping, including maritime security, piracy and armed robbery at sea, safety frameworks for alternative fuels, and the development of the International Code for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS Code).
This week’s discussions also place renewed emphasis on the safety, security, and welfare of seafarers operating in high-risk regions amid ongoing challenges affecting international shipping routes.
As the maritime industry continues to evolve through technological advancements and emerging global challenges, Belize remains committed to supporting international initiatives that strengthen maritime safety, enhance security, and protect seafarers worldwide.
Participation in MSC 111 reflects the country’s continued commitment to contributing to global maritime dialogue while ensuring that the welfare and perspectives of seafarers remain at the forefront of the industry’s future.
