From June 9th to 11th, 2025, the Belize Port Authority (BPA), in collaboration with NORBIT Subsea, hosted a (3) three day hydrographic survey demonstration. The session was led by Mr. Jose Alexis Primelles Cardenas, Technical Expert, and Mr. Rui Orsini, Regional Representative. The primary objective was to evaluate NORBIT’s advanced sonar technology in Belizean waters while providing practical, hands on training to selected BPA personnel and key maritime stakeholders.
The demonstration proved highly successful, showcasing the effectiveness of modern hydrographic tools and reinforcing the BPA’s commitment to strengthening maritime safety and technical capacity. Participants gained direct exposure to a compact and mobile sonar system ideal for Belize’s coastal and port environments highlighted by its ease of setup and operation. The equipment generated high resolution bathymetric data that met UK Hydrographic Office standards, enhancing navigational safety and maritime management.
Moreover, the initiative significantly contributed to local capacity building. Our BPA staff were actively involved in every stage of the survey process from equipment installation to data acquisition and processing gaining valuable technical knowledge and experience to support the Authority’s ongoing operational needs.
