Order of Port Closure
Belize City, Belize – November 1, 2022 Belize is under Hurricane Watch for the impending passing of Tropical Storm Lisa, expected to strengthen to a Category 1 Hurricane before it makes landfall.
The Belize Port Authority, in accordance with the standards of operation of ports and under the authority granted by the Belize Port Authority Act, and in order to avoid danger to life and property, hereby directs as follows:
All ports shall be closed, to arrival and departure of ships, no later than 0700 Hours on Wednesday, 02 November 2022.
All foreign-flagged ships in Belize are to clear and depart the territorial seas of Belize no later than 0500 hours on Wednesday, 02 November 2022, and are advised to seek safe harbour in accordance with their emergency plan.
Ships are prohibited from entering the ports and harbours of Belize until the Ports Commissioner lifts this order in writing. Ports, Shipping Agents and the Maritime Community in general are reminded to keep abreast of the storm and official notices from NEMO.
The Ports Commissioner appeals to the maritime community to remain safe at the threat of Tropical Storm Lisa.
