The training Commencing on Monday, March 24th, in Placencia, the training convened 21 participants including three women from the fishing and tourism sectors, with the objective of equipping them with the technical and practical skills essential to succeed in Belize’s expanding Blue Economy.
Over four weeks, participants engaged in hands on and theoretical instruction in:
- Marlinspike seamanship (knots, ties, splicing)
- Slipping and docking
- Anchoring, towing, and mooring
- Navigation techniques
- Man Overboard drills

The program culminated on Friday, April 25th, with a Graduation Ceremony celebrating the participants’ successful completion of the Coxswain Training Course. These newly certified Boat Captains are now better equipped to contribute to sustainable livelihoods and economic development in Belize’s vibrant coastal communities.
