The Belize Port Authority, in collaboration with the International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (Immarbe Belize)

The Belize Port Authority, in collaboration with the International Merchant Marine Registry of Belize (Immarbe Belize), successfully completed the first week of a two-part Port State Control training program on July 25th, 2025. The course welcomed 20 participants from both organizations and is designed to strengthen technical knowledge and operational readiness in maritime compliance and inspection procedures.

The opening week, held from July 21st to 25th, centered on the theoretical elements of Port State Control. These sessions were led by Mr. Vlado Francic, Head of the Department of Nautical Sciences at the University of Rijeka, who was selected by the International Maritime Safety, Security and Environment Academy (IMSSEA) to deliver this portion of the training.

The second week of training, which began on July 28th, focused on the practical, hands-on aspects of the course. This segment was conducted by officers from the Italian Coast Guard Capt. Stefano Carnevali and Capt. Claudio Corradi who brought extensive field experience to the program.

This joint effort reflects the continued commitment of both the Belize Port Authority and IMMARBE to upholding international maritime standards and improving inspection capabilities within Belizean waters.
