From June 23–26, 2026, Mr. Zachary Young of the Belize Port Authority participated in a four-day workshop held in Singapore, organized by the IALA World-Wide Academy in collaboration with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
The workshop brought together 19 representatives from Aids to Navigation (AtoN) authorities, accredited training organizations, alumni, academics, and consultants to review and enhance the L1.1 Marine Aids to Navigation (AtoN) Manager course curriculum, content, and educational structure.
Discussions focused on ensuring that the course remains aligned with developments in the AtoN sector, current educational principles, and industry best practices, while keeping the core material relevant and up to date. Participants also emphasized the need for more practical, scenario-based learning and clearer competency outcomes.
Mr. Zachary Young’s participation provided the BPA with an opportunity to contribute to international discussions on strengthening AtoN training, leadership, and professional development. The workshop was a collaborative and future-focused effort, with the outcomes to be consolidated for review and further development by the IALA technical committees.
