The Belize Port Authority is pleased to share highlights from a recent interview conducted by Caribbean Shipping Lanes featuring Dr. Simon Chin-Yee, Lecturer in Political Sciences at UCL, and our very own Mr. Kaylon Young, MSc., Actg Ports Commissioner.
The discussion focused on the outcomes of MEPC83 and its critical relevance to Belize’s maritime and climate agenda. From advancing green shipping ambitions to improving technical coordination at the IMO, both Dr. Chin-Yee and Actg Ports Commissioner Mr. Young emphasized the importance of aligning international maritime initiatives with Belize’s national priorities.
The interview also underscored the important work of Caribbean Shipping Lanes in supporting regional delegates.
This includes:
• Providing technical briefings
• Preparing for negotiations
• Building capacity across the region
• Ensuring continuous engagement at the international level
These efforts help to ensure that the Caribbean’s voice including Belize’s is strong, well-informed, and unified in global maritime discussions. We remain committed to playing a leading role in shaping a resilient, sustainable, and forward-looking maritime future for Belize and the wider Caribbean.
