The Belize Port Authority (BPA) recently conducted a presentation at the Saca Chispas Water Taxi Terminal in San Pedro Town, emphasizing the significance of the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP) and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
This initiative highlights BPA’s commitment to strengthening maritime security across Belize’s ports through proactive measures and regulatory enforcement. In line with this commitment, the BPA has taken decisive steps to implement necessary legislation supporting the ISPS Code.
In June 2004, the Ministry of Works & Transport enacted Statutory Instrument No.101 of 2004: Port Security Regulations, granting legal effect to the ISPS Code concerning port facility security. As the designated authority for port security oversight, the BPA has also issued ISPS Compliance Guidelines to all facilities, assisting Port Facility Security Officers (PFSOs) and port operators in understanding and meeting code requirements, ensuring that Belize’s ports remain secure and compliant with international standards.
